The Heli Appeal

The Cornwall Air Ambulance after thorough planning and preparation announced, on 24th April of this year, the New Heli Appeal. This appeals goal is to raise funds to bring the next generation of helicopters to Cornwall.  The AW169; how is this an improvement? Well let's get started. It has a greater range; the fuel consumption is half what the current helicopter uses so that means more air time compared to refuelling, allowing the helicopter to reach patients take them to hospital and then be able to fly right back out again to the next emergency. The engines are more powerful, so it can carry more equipment; as it stands the two Air Ambulance Helicopters, one has the equipment for flying to the isles of Scilly the other does not. With the added space the equipment can be kept on the AW169 so that the crew, if they are needed on isles of Scilly, whether flying back from a hospital or from the base, they can go straight to the patient without having to transfer or use th...

A Little Taste of Home; Hidden Gem of Helston

Helston park - One of the local swans From being sold out of their set, three course meal to having delicious drinks. This small corner cafe, next to two of the best charity shops I have ever been in, is certainly a hidden gem within Helston. No names or location will be within this article as it was a magical experience to wander upon this cafe and have a great meal. It was unexpected and a lovely atmosphere. The set meals varied but all were well presented when it appeared from the kitchen from the waitressing to the food arrangement. The roast turkey was succulent, the gravy was subtle and not overwhelming the dish. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. the vegetables were clearly boiled, the carrots were kept sightly al dente, the green beans were soft and appetising. The starter soup was extremely filling, thick and well presented, served with two triangle slices of bread. The main course was filling, the flavours were consistent and ...

Wetherspoons; Consistency is More Then an Issue.

*                                          Pictures were taken 5 minutes into each meal From this  1 Week ago The chips cut and beautifully fluffy with a crisp outer shell. The peas, tasted like peas; sweet and green. The Scampi was crisp on the outside and lovely and moist on the inside, the taste on point with what you would expect. Having said that, the dessert was quite bad. The same desert, Chocolate Sundae was burnt and was inedible. To This  Today  Peas in picture 2 were not eaten (swallowed) and were pushed to the side with the scampi. There is a major difference in size of portions which might be equated to different chefs, or by the amount of people dining at this 'highly' recommended restaurant. Not sure where the high standards went but they are far, far away from the meals (yes plural) that were served . From the throw in the o...

Relocation!

Helston, a town of many hills that knacker the knees and leave you getting fitter as you walk up the high street. The weather, a balmy 20+ degrees with the occasional torrential rain intermittently breaking up your day. The streets, for those that know Skyrim, have elegant water features that remind the young eye of Whiterun where the water is as crystal clear as it is here. The sound is as hypnotic as the stars, the sound provoking one of two normal reactions, one being relaxation and the other... The Echo Observer has moved further a field, now down in Cornwall. Solely run by one, yours truly  (me) I will be covering as much as possible, from comparing eateries in this town or the next one over to covering local events. Some posts will be on food, (with me drawing on my years of eating and my appreciation of good food) to the people here and what they do to keep this community in such high and friendly spirits.

Accident on Craigellachie to Aberlour Road

Updates can be found at the Bottom of the article Three vehicles were involved in the accident beginning at the turning onto the main road from Craigellachie.  The police, air ambulance and normal ambulances were called to the 3 car crash. Thankfully, airbags were deployed within the two cars that the fronts are severely damaged in. In the wake of the crash it is lucky that (the men directing traffic stated) that everyone was alright, though this does not exclude the possibility of someone being hurt.  Traffic was backed up from Craigellachie all the way into Aberlour, and was on the verge of 2 miles an hour at a few brief intervals of movement. This picture was taken outside of Aberlour, just after the small road that many locals use to by-pass Craigellachie. This is the picture of the third car which sustained damage to the front right of the car. More information will be posted once it is available. Congestion in the road has eased considerab...

Coffee Morning Galore and Posters from Store to Store

Everyone loves a good coffee morning once in a while, whether its for the coffee, the raffle, the cakes or the socialising; you will normally find a large variety of people at these kinds of events. The time for coffee mornings and fundraisers has arrived! With many coffee mornings going in Elgin, let alone other places in the area how can anyone possibly attend all of them. Many coffee mornings, soup and sweets are advertised all over town so if word of mouth is how you normally hear, there are far easier ways. A list had been compiled below to help aid in discovery and add (if you're a tad like me) a little bit of activity to your day. Your local library, yes obvious indeed.... or is it? The library is not just for use of computers and the borrowing of books, and I don't mean in recent years it has diversified into the lending of DVD's, audio books and local eventry knowledge. As many people use the library, not only is it word of mouth but quite often flyer...
