There is a major difference in size of portions which might be equated to different chefs, or by the amount of people dining at this 'highly' recommended restaurant.
Not sure where the high standards went but they are far, far away from the meals (yes plural) that were served. From the throw in the oven chips out of a bag to the musty, bleached tasting peas of the scampi dish served to my self. The scampi was moist at the centre and crispy on the outside but had a slight taste that it had been previously frozen. In my humble opinion many have it frozen but this should not come across in the taste.
The other meal was an 8 oz sirloin steak, completed with mushroom, the same peas, and the oven chips. The meat was pale but still edible. The main problem with the dish was the triangle of plastic found mingling with the peas and the mushroom.
Had it not been noticed, the piece of plastic would have been within the mouth. The sharp corners could have lingered in the mouth or been swallowed; possibly causing a lot of damage.
A redeeming factor to this was that the manager was called by a waitress and it was dealt with immediately. As an apology, complementary desserts were served.
The chocolate sundae was nice, though it should have been called the chocolate brownie sundae. The cream on top went down an inch into the glass where thick brownies were through out surrounded by more thick cream, which may have once been ice-cream.
The second desert was an apple crumble with ice-cream, ordered as apple crumble with custard. The ice cream was nice, creamy as expected of clotted cream ice-cream. The apples were crunchy, the crumble on top was doughy and was formed into a glue when combined with the ice-cream.
The factor that pushes me to put this restaurant into 2 out of 5 stars for the experience is that the staff were on point, remedying the situation with understanding and efficiency.

The chips cut and beautifully fluffy with a crisp outer shell. The peas, tasted like peas; sweet and green. The Scampi was crisp on the outside and lovely and moist on the inside, the taste on point with what you would expect.
Having said that, the dessert was quite bad. The same desert, Chocolate Sundae was burnt and was inedible.

Peas in picture 2 were not eaten (swallowed) and were pushed to the side with the scampi.

Perfectly cooked Steak and Chips. Meat was succulent, perfectly cooked and the sauce was creamy and with a kick. If I had not been doing an comparison, this sitting at Wetherspoons would have been reviewed as a 5 out of 5 stars as the food, drink and service were superb.
