Wetherspoons; Consistency is More Then an Issue.

The chips cut and beautifully fluffy with a crisp outer shell. The peas, tasted like peas; sweet and green. The Scampi was crisp on the outside and lovely and moist on the inside, the taste on point with what you would expect.
Having said that, the dessert was quite bad. The same desert, Chocolate Sundae was burnt and was inedible.

Peas in picture 2 were not eaten (swallowed) and were pushed to the side with the scampi.

There is a major difference in size of portions which might be equated to different chefs, or by the amount of people dining at this 'highly' recommended restaurant.

Not sure where the high standards went but they are far, far away from the meals (yes plural) that were served. From the throw in the oven chips out of a bag to the musty, bleached tasting peas of the scampi dish served to my self. The scampi was moist at the centre and crispy on the outside but had a slight taste that it had been previously frozen. In my humble opinion many have it frozen but this should not come across in the taste.

The other meal was an 8 oz sirloin steak, completed with mushroom, the same peas, and the oven chips. The meat was pale but still edible. The main problem with the dish was the triangle of plastic found mingling with the peas and the mushroom.

Had it not been noticed, the piece of plastic would have been within the mouth. The sharp corners could have lingered in the mouth or been swallowed; possibly causing a lot of damage.

A redeeming factor to this was that the manager was called by a waitress and it was dealt with immediately. As an apology, complementary desserts were served.

The chocolate sundae was nice, though it should have been called the chocolate brownie sundae. The cream on top went down an inch into the glass where thick brownies were through out surrounded by more thick cream, which may have once been ice-cream.

The second desert was an apple crumble with ice-cream, ordered as apple crumble with custard. The ice cream was nice, creamy as expected of clotted cream ice-cream. The apples were crunchy, the crumble on top was doughy and was formed into a glue when combined with the ice-cream.

The factor that pushes me to put this restaurant into 2 out of 5 stars for the experience is that the staff were on point, remedying the situation with understanding and efficiency.

Perfectly cooked Steak and Chips. Meat was succulent, perfectly cooked and the sauce was creamy and with a kick. If I had not been doing an comparison, this sitting at Wetherspoons would have been reviewed as a 5 out of 5 stars as the food, drink and service were superb.

Why Do We Have To Have A Food Bank?

Article by Jane Stone Food; is it something we take for granted, something we expect to have because of it being vital to living? I'm sure a lot of people remember the 'saying waste not want not' or 'children in poor countries would love to have a small portion of what you have, many of them don't even get that much'.                                                                    Picture from Moray FoodBank Facebook Page But we are missing what should be a problem being dealt with; that people from our country, one of the richest in the world has people homeless and hungry on our streets, some living in homes with no spare income for food. The food banks were introduced to help solve this problem; but surely the Food Bank should be a short term fix, helping people temporarily until they are able to supp...

The Heli Appeal

The Cornwall Air Ambulance after thorough planning and preparation announced, on 24th April of this year, the New Heli Appeal. This appeals goal is to raise funds to bring the next generation of helicopters to Cornwall.  The AW169; how is this an improvement? Well let's get started. It has a greater range; the fuel consumption is half what the current helicopter uses so that means more air time compared to refuelling, allowing the helicopter to reach patients take them to hospital and then be able to fly right back out again to the next emergency. The engines are more powerful, so it can carry more equipment; as it stands the two Air Ambulance Helicopters, one has the equipment for flying to the isles of Scilly the other does not. With the added space the equipment can be kept on the AW169 so that the crew, if they are needed on isles of Scilly, whether flying back from a hospital or from the base, they can go straight to the patient without having to transfer or use th...

Cake Competition and Craft Fayre; In Aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund

Starting the day with enthusiasm despite the growing grey sky above! At the Lossiemouth Community Centre on Sunday the 14th of May, Crafters from over the moray area attended the event their stalls set up within one of the sports halls at the high school. From Soap to handmade silver jewellery there was a large variety of crafts. Many cakes and bakes were donated to help with fundraising. They also had a small tent outside and next to it was the hot food stall where a hog roast was done from 11 onwards for the day. The event ended at 1. As the day went on it brightened supplying periods of the radiant sun which were intermittent between torrential rain. Many of the crafters had been crafting for over 3 to 4 years. Their skills honed and true to their craft. Shark Bait and Sprocket was a crafter that had only started collecting the and using the sea glass and sea pottery to create beautiful pieces of art just last year. And for such a short time with the trade, they h...
