Cake Competition and Craft Fayre; In Aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund

Starting the day with enthusiasm despite the growing grey sky above!

At the Lossiemouth Community Centre on Sunday the 14th of May, Crafters from over the moray area attended the event their stalls set up within one of the sports halls at the high school. From Soap to handmade silver jewellery there was a large variety of crafts.

Many cakes and bakes were donated to help with fundraising. They also had a small tent outside and next to it was the hot food stall where a hog roast was done from 11 onwards for the day. The event ended at 1.

As the day went on it brightened supplying periods of the radiant sun which were intermittent between torrential rain.

Many of the crafters had been crafting for over 3 to 4 years. Their skills honed and true to their craft.

Shark Bait and Sprocket was a crafter that had only started collecting the and using the sea glass and sea pottery to create beautiful pieces of art just last year. And for such a short time with the trade, they have been not just innovative, recycling and cleaning up the beaches but also resourceful in beginning their new venture. Ecofriendly, recycling sea glass into stunning work aiding Beach Clean in keeping the beaches clean.

Another new crafter is Sweetpea Prints, creating treasures and keepsakes for people using her own unique style.
".. handcrafted by me and totally unique to you"

Craftilicious Claire, her diverse range of products appeal to not only the younger generation but also has quite a lot for the whole age range. I found much of her produce refreshing especially while browsing her website, as one product caught my eye as it was practical, creative and in all the time I had been to craft fairs I had never seen anything like this. And on top of doing private orders, she also does craft workshops.

I believe that one person who attended the event would be more of an artist then crafter, his work beautiful and true to the artist's original vision but still in his own pen style. Creating pieces of fan art and is able to commissions. Mac's Fan Art

Up until 3 months ago was a chemist, now she's creating a soap that not only looks good but does good. Apothecary's Garden grows her ingredients and makes the soap that is beneficial to skin. Such as ingredients like Aleo Vera, Charcoal and herbs.

By mid way through the event, a flock of people came out with the sunshine perusing and having fun at the community centre in Lossiemouth.

Thank you also, everyone, who allowed me to use their pictures of produce and pictures of the event to aid in this article.

Although there were many Crafters at the event, not all could be written about but all of their websites have been linked and placed underneath along with a short description of their products.

Why Do We Have To Have A Food Bank?

Article by Jane Stone Food; is it something we take for granted, something we expect to have because of it being vital to living? I'm sure a lot of people remember the 'saying waste not want not' or 'children in poor countries would love to have a small portion of what you have, many of them don't even get that much'.                                                                    Picture from Moray FoodBank Facebook Page But we are missing what should be a problem being dealt with; that people from our country, one of the richest in the world has people homeless and hungry on our streets, some living in homes with no spare income for food. The food banks were introduced to help solve this problem; but surely the Food Bank should be a short term fix, helping people temporarily until they are able to supp...

The Heli Appeal

The Cornwall Air Ambulance after thorough planning and preparation announced, on 24th April of this year, the New Heli Appeal. This appeals goal is to raise funds to bring the next generation of helicopters to Cornwall.  The AW169; how is this an improvement? Well let's get started. It has a greater range; the fuel consumption is half what the current helicopter uses so that means more air time compared to refuelling, allowing the helicopter to reach patients take them to hospital and then be able to fly right back out again to the next emergency. The engines are more powerful, so it can carry more equipment; as it stands the two Air Ambulance Helicopters, one has the equipment for flying to the isles of Scilly the other does not. With the added space the equipment can be kept on the AW169 so that the crew, if they are needed on isles of Scilly, whether flying back from a hospital or from the base, they can go straight to the patient without having to transfer or use th...
